Sims 3 Welfare Challenge, part 1: We have to move on

“Why do I have to do this?” Aliana Shipp grumbled to herself as she made her way up to the attic. As a punishment for sneaking out to go to a party with her friends, her father was making her clean out some of the things in the attic. “Why can’t Dad just ground me like a normal father?”

Getting up there, Aliana frowned as she looked around, arms crossed. Boxes upon boxes were stacked all around the small attic, blocking what little light came through the small window. Sighing, the female decided to start with one of the closest, and least dusty, ones.

Aragon Shipp. Aliana paused as she read the name scrawled in her father’s handwring. Aragon was her grandmother, one she had never met. Her father didn’t like his mother and refused to talk about her. So Aliana found herself eagerly opening the box and hoping to learn something about the mysterious woman.

Clothes, clothes, random papers, pictures, aha! Aliana grinned as she pulled out an old journal, easily seeing that it was decades old. Opening it up, Aliana say the many pictures that accompanied the words, marveling how they had stayed so bright despite having been years since they were taken. Tearing her eyes away from the young woman that seemed to be the focus, Aliana started to read...

Why did he leave us? We only just lost Mom thanks to the town drunkard and his car, and now Dad just goes and leaves us!

He said it was my fault for getting pregnant, that he can’t handle two toddlers and the infant I’m going to have. And, well, maybe he’s right. I just got caught up with Chaim and one thing led to another...

I thought Chaim would be there for me, but when I told him, he acted like I was crazy and he wanted me to terminate it.

I couldn’t do it, even if I wanted to, so he called me a whore and broke up with me.

So here I am, with a younger brother who hates everyone and twin baby sisters that can’t even control their bladders yet.

I had already registered for welfare, but they weren’t sure that the pregnant, teenaged girl would actually be able to provide for young children. But I was determined to make it, to provide for all of my siblings and my unborn child. The house that they moved us into wasn't much, but I can deal with it.

I don’t know why I decided to write down everything in this journal, but I just need something, anything to talk to. I guess... maybe one day Eliza or Evy will want to read how they grew up. Or maybe even my daughter or son. I can only hope my brother, sisters, and child will all grow up well.

Oh, there goes Eliza or Evy, crying again. I have to go take care of them. This is going to be a long journey...

Aliana flinched as she heard her mother calling her down for dinner. Hesitating, Aliana tucked the journal into her hoodie before heading down the ladder from the attic. She was very interested in the lives of her great-aunts and -uncle. Though Aunts, as she called them, Eliza and Evy were only a few years older than her dad, they didn’t really talk. Her father was kind of estranged from his family, and Aliana didn’t know why. Hopefully, she would find out through the journal...
